Nigeria senior officer lifetime salary has just experienced a significant shift this August of 2025, and I reckon it’s worth sharing some thoughts on this rather curious development.
Well now, my friend, President Tinubu has just put his signature to a scheme that would cause royalty to turn green. The distinguished government representative made the proclamation at what they call a “Ministerial Retreat” in Abuja, beaming with satisfaction.
What’s the hullabaloo, you ask? Indeed, it’s about guaranteeing that specific high-ranking officers will continue to receive their full salary until the day they depart this mortal coil. But mark my words – this luxurious arrangement ain’t for ordinary civil servants.
Certainly not! This remarkable privilege is exclusively for those privileged few who retire at the elevated positions of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General in agencies under the Interior Ministry’s umbrella.
The stated purpose – and I convey this solemnly – is to guarantee these eminent persons maintain their dignity. Think on that a spell! As if a senior officer with decades of government service would be reduced to begging.
This interesting measure comes alongside other improvements including clearing a accumulation of over 50,000 pending promotions and founding what they’re calling a “world-class Fire Academy” to compare with the one in Arizona. Progress marches on, or so they claim.
Throughout my observations of administrations devise ways to reward their own, but this lifetime salary arrangement beats all. Any thinking person would ask: Why not extend such liberality to all public servants? More fittingly, to the ordinary folks whose taxes fund these benefits?
The contrast with other civil workers remains plain as day. Countless ex-policemen still wait years for retirement funds that amount to a pittance.
